Pediatric Dentistry's Importance Highlighted by Study on Protuberant Teeth, says Premier Care Dental Group
PASADENA, Calif., May 20, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- A May 14article on Medical Express detailed a study conducted by the University of Adelaide which found what researchers are describing as a direct connection between the degree to which a child's teeth protrude and their chance of dental injuries; the more overt the protrusion, they add, the higher the risk. Younger children between the ages of three and six were especially at risk. While the exact reasoning for the heightened risk in small children is not detailed in the study, it can probably be inferred that younger children tend to be a little clumsier as well as a little more rambunctious. Pasadena-based dental clinic Premier Care Dental Group says that risk is easily mitigated though, and pediatric dentists have a number of methods for protecting young children's teeth.
Premier Care Dental Group notes that forming good dental habits early on can help to assure that a child's smile remains happy and bright. For example, the clinic says that along with the normal brushing and flossing that can protect young teeth from stains and decay, wearing mouth guards during sports or similar activities can protect teeth from physical damage. Just as well, the clinic adds that curbing thumb and pacifier sucking in infants as early as possible can reduce the chance of developing protruding teeth in the first place, as this habit can alter the pathway along which teeth emerge in the mouth.
The dental group also says that starting good oral hygiene habits early on in children's lives can establish lifelong habits that protect many areas of their health. More obviously, good habits can reduce the chances of needing costly restorative procedures later. Less seriously but still important to many, the clinic adds that parents who take care of their children's teeth can also rest easy knowing their children can take family photos with happy and bright smiles – though getting the children to smile might be another issue entirely.
Premier Care Dental Group says that pediatric dentistry can not only take care of any dental concerns for children but also educate parents on proper techniques that can help to ensure lasting dental health for their children. The clinic adds that it is often all too easy for busy new parents to put their children's oral hygiene on the proverbial backburner. Parents of young children are often worried about countless things, but they should still try to prioritize dental hygiene in an effort to protect their children's overall wellbeing.
