Parkview Health Uses Fair Isaac's Business Rules Technology With IDX(R) Carecast(TM) to Help Improve Healthcare Services

Upgraded Clinical Decision Support Capabilities Integrated With Electronic Records System Promotes Efficiency and Helps Prevent Patient Care Errors

Fair Isaac Corporation (NYSE:FIC) and IDX Systems Corporation(Nasdaq:IDXC) today announced that Parkview Health is using anintegrated solution that combines Fair Isaac Blaze Advisor rulesmanagement technology with IDX(R) Carecast(TM) enterprise clinicalsystem to deliver sophisticated decision management support forhealthcare providers across the organization.

The combined solution has enabled Parkview, a not-for-profit,community-owned network of eight northeastern Indiana hospitals, todevelop a series of expert business rules that improve the efficiencyand safety of medication ordering and administration. Parkview hasimproved medication turnaround time by an average of 43 minutes and isproviding its clinicians with valuable tools that support patientsafety and help prevent adverse drug events.

Using Blaze Advisor, Parkview has implemented an expert rule thatflags pediatric patients and requires verification of medicationdosages based on the patient's weight. If the weight is not listed ordoes not correspond to the dose ordered, the system alerts thepharmacist to contact the patient's clinician to confirm the necessaryinformation. Rules are also used to calculate estimated creatinineclearance when ordering certain antibiotics or other drugs than canaffect kidney function; require potassium level verification forpatients receiving Digoxin or potassium supplements; and require INRverification for patients receiving warfarin.
