OPNET Announces New System-in-the-Loop Software for Inter-operability Testing, Training, and Wargaming Exercises
The foundation of OPNET SITL is based on licensed technology fromBAE Systems, originally developed to support defense programs such asFCS, JTRS, WIN-T, and Network-Centric Enterprise Services. Benefitsinclude reduced program testing costs, shorter test schedules, reducedprogram risks, and increased test scenario scalability. In addition,SITL facilitates rapid development of training systems for newtechnologies.
John Deal, Director for C4ISR Systems Engineering/CTO,Communications & Information Systems, stated, "BAE Systems haspioneered the use of OPNET simulations in online hardware-in-the-loopenvironments. Since 1998, members of BAE Systems have been enhancingthe capability to interface simulation models to real hardware andsoftware systems. We have also developed a distributed simulationcapability to enable modeling of large-scale networks in real time. This new agreement will enable OPNET's large installed base of usersto take advantage of our work in these areas."
Alain J. Cohen, OPNET's President and CTO, stated, "The new SITLsoftware will significantly simplify the process of connecting OPNETto live systems. The SITL workflow will result in rapid and lower-costtesting, training, and wargaming exercises for our defense andequipment manufacturer customers."
Availability
General availability of the OPNET System-in-the-Loop (SITL) moduleand related services are planned for December 2005. OPNET SITL wasdemonstrated at the C4ISR Interoperability Conference, December5th-7th in Arlington, Virginia.
