Omtool™ Announces Technology Innovators of 2010 for the Legal Industry
Omtool™ Ltd. (OMTL.PK), a leading provider of document capture and handling solutions, today announced the winners of the 2010 Drive for Innovation Awards for the legal vertical market. The annual Drive for Innovation Awards was established by Omtool to recognize law firms who have implemented their AccuRoute® document capture and handling solution in the most innovative ways to achieve successful results in the areas of content accessibility, technology integration, streamlined paper document workflows, corporate governance and cost savings, among others.
Winners for this year’s Drive for Innovation Awards for the legal market include Cetrulo & Capone LLP, Kaye Scholar LLP, Kelley Drye & Warren LLP, and Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP. This year’s first place 2010 Drive for Innovation Award was presented to Weil Gotshal & Manges LLP for their strong commitment to implement a paper-to-digital document routing solution across their offices worldwide addressing multiple paper document workflows.
"We’re on a mission to scan everything we can- and we’re doing it with basic, easy tools that everyone in the firm can use,” said Jordan Gilder, supervisor of business systems at Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP. "Before we implemented AccuRoute, we were voracious consumers of paper, with 1,200 lawyers in numerous practice areas spread across 20 offices around the world, we were processing tens of thousands of pages a day. Now using AccuRoute to scan and store documents, we have significantly cut our paper usage, improved cost recovery, accelerated collaboration inside and outside the firm, process invoices faster and drastically reduced our outside storage cost.”
Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP not only initiated scan and capture across all their offices but also leveraged AccuRoute to manage the firm’s invoice processing which ultimately sped the business process, making their invoices immediately and freely accessible. Their adoption of AccuRoute helped to automate document workflows that included:
- Creating text-searchable PDFs and empowering working documents to be shared and edited by multiple users on a particular case or matter
- Integrating AccuRoute with Equitrac cost recovery terminals to accelerate and simplify their expense reporting process
- Digitizing all documents and transactions, storing them on a server for immediate access and collaborating among their offices
"We’ve been able to deploy these services without having to change our hardware infrastructure and it’s surprising how addicted to AccuRoute our people have truly become,” said Gilder.
Also recognized for their technology innovations are Cetrulo & Capone LLP and Kaye Scholar LLP, who tied for the second place award. Cetrulo & Capone was very creative in their use of AccuRoute by enabling remote printing from an Apple iPAD by routing documents to AccuRoute first and with the proper routing rules, AccuRoute then directs the documents to be printed. As disclosed earlier this week, Kaye Scholar was able to achieve a significant reduction in the number of requests for documents to be pulled from offsite storage as a result of adopting AccuRoute in their firm.
Receiving the third place award was Kelley Drye Warren who, in their initiative to cut the firm’s environmental footprint and move towards as many paperless processes as possible, used AccuRoute in support of their "green” initiatives. Of the many innovative technology applications and uses leveraging AccuRoute document capture, these firms were recognized for their outstanding achievements and measurable improvements.
The adoption of AccuRoute has traditionally been considered to deliver greater productivity and ROI while eliminating costs associated with moving documents such as printing, copying, courier costs, overnight mail charges, etc. With a growing trend to be green, many have also taken to the fact that AccuRoute significantly decreases the amount of paper use. One firm stated, "We are continually moving closer to a world where we never print paper- only scan it. Attorneys, partners, administrators- everyone can walk up to the MFP and put their documents in the feeder, press a couple of buttons and initiate sophisticated work flows that we couldn’t do even a couple of years ago.”
Deployed in more than 300 legal entities, including half of the top 100 US firms, Omtool is proud to recognize these customers whose use of AccuRoute’s document capture and handling features in the legal profession demonstrate true technology innovation. These top three awards will be presented tonight at a private event hosted by Omtool during the annual ILTA conference. These winners will be awarded their own "2010 Drive for Innovation Award” trophy and associated public promotions. The first place award recipient, Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, will also receive $10,000 in cooperative marketing from Omtool.
The winners were chosen through a blind review process by a panel of industry experts that included Christy Burke, president of Burke & Company LLC, Dave Cunningham, managing director with Baker Robbins & Company Technology Consultants, Randy Dazo, director of Network Document Solutions with InfoTrends, Monroe M. Horn, chief technology officer at Sunstein Kann Murphy & Timbers LLP, and Harvey Spencer, president of Harvey Spencer Associates.
