New Research: American Companies Awarded $1.74 Billion Annually From Working With the United Nations
WASHINGTON, Aug. 21, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- New research conducted by the Better World Campaign finds that U.S. businesses won over $1.74 billion in procurement contracts with the United Nations in 2017, by far the most of any country around the world. Since 2010, U.S. companies have received over $9.5 billion in procurement contracts with the UN.
"The economic benefits of the UN are wide-ranging from coast-to-coast. Forty-two states plus Washington D.C. are home to American companies that were awarded UN contracts in 2017," said Peter Yeo, President of the Better World Campaign.
Eighty-Four Senators and 239 members of the House of Representatives have companies headquartered in their district or state that are directly benefitting from doing business with the UN. The top five states benefitting from contracts with the UN include New York, New Jersey, California, Maryland and Washington D.C.
This new data is being released just a few months after Ambassador Haley hosted a seminar for U.S. companies on doing business with the UN. At the event, Ambassador Haley said, "The United Nations procures over $17.5 billion each year in goods and services. This represents an enormous opportunity for U.S. businesses."
"We at the Better World Campaign couldn't agree more with Ambassador Haley's assessment on the tremendous value this presents to American companies," added Yeo.
"This new data confirms that the UN is not only in America's foreign policy and national security interests, American corporations also benefit more than any other country in the world from procurement contracts with the UN."
