National Australia Bank Goes Live with SunGard's Adaptiv for Global Risk Management

    Business Editors/Technology Writers/Financial Editors

AUSTRALIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 8, 2005--SunGard Asia Pacific, an operating group of SunGard (NYSE:SDS), today announced that National Australia Bank (NAB), a leading international financial services group, has gone live with SunGard's Adaptiv for management of its global credit limits.
NAB is able to centrally store credit information using Adaptiv, helping risk personnel to monitor global exposures against limits and manage exceptions on a real-time basis. NAB will also use Adaptiv to help improve its violation management and workflow, and help improve management and control of credit policies whilst reducing operating costs and minimizing risk.
David Kerr, head of strategic development, Credit Risk Management, at NAB, said, "The implementation of Adaptiv has provided us with an integrated framework to monitor our global limits in real time and respond to trade-related activity. Adaptiv helps us to satisfy within seconds traders' requests for pre-deal limit checking and to send warnings and credit line availability levels back to the traders in real time. This means we can now proactively manage our global credit risks."
The Adaptiv implementation provided NAB with a low-risk, low-cost option. Adaptiv has been implemented successfully across the globe. NAB is hosting Adaptiv centrally, with SunGard providing remote management facility services to monitor the solution and provide access across the bank's global sites. SunGard's expertise in Asia Pacific and strong presence in Australia helped it assemble an experienced project team.
"NAB is building technology partners, vendors with which we can develop a strong, enduring relationship and that can service the needs of the group. SunGard fits this bill and the Adaptiv solution is proven. Adaptiv is innovative and established, and provides us with the platform for continued implementation of our risk management strategy and the tools to help us increase our operational efficiencies," said Craig Bright, chief information officer, Institutional Markets & Services, NAB.
John Wilson, president, SunGard Asia Pacific, said, "The implementation of Adaptiv provides NAB with a seamless workflow environment to gather and aggregate data with improved efficiency and consistency. Regulatory and economic pressures are forcing banks to more efficiently manage and allocate capital. Adaptiv provides NAB with the tools to help achieve this and remain competitive on a global scale. The strength of SunGard means that banks can work with a global leader, with extensive experience and a broad range of solutions."
NAB is also using SunGard for credit derivatives management. Additionally, it uses SunGard's MINT for SWIFTNet connectivity, COMPASS for superannuation processing, intelliMATCH for reconciliations and intelliSTOR for the storage and retrieval of reports.
