'NASA Day in Montgomery' to Highlight Alabama's Role in Leading America Back to the Moon, on to Mars

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Feb. 16, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Officials from NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, will travel to Montgomery, Alabama, Thursday, Feb. 22, to spread the word about the importance of the state's role in leading America back to the Moon and on to Mars during the Aerospace States Association's Alabama Aerospace Week.

Marshall leaders will meet with elected officials and NASA will be honored by the Alabama legislature with a resolution and proclamation from Gov. Kay Ivey recognizing the agency's achievements.

Media are invited to hear Marshall Center Director Todd May and NASA astronaut Tracy Dyson speak at 1 p.m. CST, at Alabama State University'sRalph D. Abernathy College of Education's auditorium, which will be hosted by ASU's President, Dr. Quinton T. Ross, Jr. At the conclusion of remarks, May and Dyson will offer a brief media availability.

Interactive exhibits will be outside the Alabama State House on Washington Street from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Featured exhibits include a 3-D printing demonstration, an immersive 3-D experience of NASA's Space Launch System and a moon rock returned to Earth from the from the Apollo 15 mission. NASA team members and Alabama school teachers also will visit several area Boys & Girls Clubs to inspire and engage students with activities in the STEM fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
