Motorola Boosts Broadband Services Router BSR 64000 Capacity Five Fold With New DOCSIS 3.0 Decoupled Downstream Module TX32

ORLANDO, Fla., June 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Motorola, Inc today introduced the ultra-broadband enabling Decoupled Downstream Module TX32 for the BSR 64000 (at the Society for Cable Engineers Cable-Tec Expo (Orlando Convention Center, June 20-22).

The new TX32 module supports DOCSIS 3.0 channel bonding and helps provide the industry's highest density embedded downstream solution with each module supporting 32 QAM channels in a single slot within the fully redundant BSR 64000 router chassis. The downstream channels on the TX32 module can be coupled with the downstream and upstream channels on existing 2:8 CMTS modules to provide up to 138 downstream channels and up to five gigabits of aggregate downstream capacity in a single chassis. This advanced module supports new DOCSIS 3.0 as well as legacy DOCSIS 1.X and 2.0 cable modems and can support channel bonding and load balancing across TX32 and 2:8 module downstream channel configurations.

As new social networking and multimedia Internet applications gain traction, consumer demand for bandwidth continues to rise. Motorola has developed a full suite of bandwidth expansion technologies to help cable operators meet that demand, and today's introduction of the TX32 module marks a giant leap forward in the race for cost-effective, higher-capacity broadband.

"The new TX32 module will help allow cable operators to increase their broadband speed tiers dramatically and deliver high-bandwidth applications and converged IP services," said Kevin Keefe, vice president of marketing, Motorola Home and Networks Mobility. "It offers high density and functionality while simultaneously helping to decrease costs and protect operator investments in pre-DOCSIS 3.0 technology. The response from our customers to the TX32 module has been overwhelming, and we're looking forward to going to market with the product later this year."

Because of its density, the Motorola TX32 module will decrease the cost per downstream channel by more than 60%. When added to a BSR 64000 router, the TX32 module provides functionality to every single installed card, helping to ensure that existing investments are protected and offering the lowest incremental cost for capacity additions. For more information on the TX32 module, which is expected to be available in the fourth quarter of this year, visit Motorola at the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo, stand #1378.
