More than 140 Avaya Partner Companies and Consultants Announce Support

BASKING RIDGE, N.J., May 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- More than 140 independent software and hardware development firms, systems integrators, alliance partners and consultants have announced support for the interoperable, multivendor approach to Intelligent Communications announced today by Avaya Inc. , a leading global provider of business communications applications, services and systems.

As a first step toward Intelligent Communications, Avaya is creating an open applications environment, which will simplify and stimulate the design of new business communications applications.

Avaya strategic alliance partners and others supporting the company's strategy include AT&T, Extreme Networks(R), HP, Juniper Networks and Polycom. These companies and many others work with Avaya to accelerate the creation and delivery of seamless communication solutions and to provide systems integration and consulting expertise for global organizations.

"We are seeing a strong growth in enterprises moving to converged IP networks," said Varun Nagaraj, vice president of product management for Extreme Networks. "There are two choices for end users, one being open converged networks that deliver the best possible technology, allowing customers to combine leading IP telephony and network solutions. The other choice is a closed approach from a single vendor that serves to lock out innovation, reduce choice and limit cost control."

Intelligent communications gives workers, customers and processes the ability to be linked to the right person, at the right time, by the right medium -- voice, text and video -- over any network. This right-time, right-choice communications gives businesses and workers increased agility through greater speed, responsiveness to customers and control.

Avaya is also leveraging its vast experience in technical innovation from Avaya Labs, committing 90 percent of its research and development investments to software for next-generation business communications applications to support this new roadmap.

In addition to strategic alliance partners, the more than 140 companies endorsing Avaya's open strategy include industry consultants and members of the Avaya DeveloperConnection program, an initiative to promote the development, compliance testing and co-marketing of innovative third-party applications that interoperate with standards-based Avaya solutions. Member organizations have expertise in a broad range of technologies-including IP telephony, contact centers and mobility applications-and have created hundreds of innovative solutions tested for Avaya compliance. These include natural language speech recognition applications, wireless services, specialized computer telephony integration and reporting capabilities, and applications tailored for specific vertical industries. As part of its new strategic roadmap, Avaya is simplifying the interfaces to its industry-leading communications software to make it even easier for developers to create solutions that work with different types of networks, devices and applications.

"Our open architecture makes it easy for our diverse developer community and customers to write applications, using standard Application Protocol Interfaces, on top of our industry-leading IP Communications foundation," said Karyn Mashima, senior vice president, Strategy & Technology, Avaya. "This opens the gates for a flood of innovative, industry specific solutions that can help enterprises around the world embed secure, reliable communications capabilities into the very fabric of their business. The benefits for businesses and their employees are limitless, but we are already seeing solutions that provide higher levels of responsiveness to customers and more control over communications."
