Monster.com, NFL Put 32 Finalists to the Test to Find First Ever "Director of Fandemonium”

Monster.com®, the leading global online career and recruitment resource and flagship brand of Monster Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: MWW), together with the National Football League (NFL) held interviews with the 32 finalists for the first-ever "NFL Director of Fandemonium” position, as part of the culmination of the national Director of Fandemonium contest, which Monster launched during Super Bowl XLIII. As part of the season-long role, the Director will take home a $100,000 signing bonus, as well as take part in the behind-the-scenes action – with never-before-granted access – at several marquee NFL events during the 2009 season.

Such behind-the-scenes access will include:

  • NFL Draft: Announce a pick at the 2009 NFL Draft (April 25-26, 2009)
  • NFL Kickoff: Act as backstage talent wrangler at the 2009 NFL Kickoff concert (Sept. 2009)
  • International Series: Participate in on-field introductions at a game in London (Oct. 2009)
  • NFL Thanksgiving: Serve as an on-field broadcast liaison for NFL Network’s Thanksgiving Game (Nov. 2009)
  • Pro Bowl: Select a play from the sidelines during the 2010 Pro Bowl (Jan. 2010)
  • Super Bowl: Join the coin toss ceremony at Super Bowl XLIV (Feb. 2010)

"It’s a competitive job market out there, and people are looking for help more than ever,” said Ted Gilvar, executive vice president and chief global marketing officer, Monster. "This Director of Fandemonium promotion is an innovative, creative and fun way to drive attention to Monster’s new tools and products that help people find new jobs every day.”

The 32 Director of Fandemonium finalists (one per NFL team) were randomly selected from nearly 300,000 applicants. In addition to receiving two tickets for all 2009 regular season home games of their respective team, the 32 finalists traveled to New York City on March 26-28 for the ultimate business trip, during which they competed against each other to win the opportunity of a lifetime for an NFL fan.

While in New York, these 32 finalists geared up for competition in their team colors to take part in several interactive challenges specifically designed to measure each finalist’s fan devotion and NFL knowledge. These challenges included an NFL trivia and skills game, faux locker room interviews, a motivational fan cheering competition, and a few secret bonus rounds to test the finalists’ skills with retired NFL superstar, Michael Strahan and comedian, Rob Riggle.

The second part the selection process involved a formal interview at NFL Headquarters with the official Director of Fandemonium Board of Directors, which included NFL, Monster and BBDO executives, as well as Strahan.

"We were looking for the best of the best from these ultimate fans,” said Strahan. "In my mind, they not only had to prove their passion for their team – they had to show us their real love of the game. Who knows, we could have met the next NFL superstar.”
