Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District Extends 10-Year Contract with Veolia for Management of Wastewater Collection and Treatment Facilities
Regulatory News:
The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District has extended its agreement with Veolia North America (Paris:VIE) to continue managing and operating its collection and wastewater treatment system under a 10-year, $500 million contract.
Since March 2008, Veolia has managed the MMSD facilities, cleaning billions of gallons of wastewater every year at two water reclamation facilities that serve 1.1 million people in 28 communities. Milwaukee is home to Veolia’s largest project in North America, employing approximately 250 people.
"Veolia has continuously exceeded all regulatory and contract standards,” said MMSD Executive Director Kevin Shafer. "MMSD believes extending Veolia’s contract is the best approach for our ratepayers and the environment. We look forward to working with Veolia for years to come.”
Veolia has consistently operated the Jones Island and South Shore facilities in compliance with the Clean Water Act, and has received awards from the National Association of Clean Water Agencies for eight years.
"MMSD is our largest project in North America and our joint accomplishments illustrate our commitment to delivering cost-effective, safe and environmentally compliant services,” said Scott Royer, Vice President and General Manager of Veolia’s Milwaukee project. "Together, we have used innovative technical programs to create value for the community and keep rates affordable for residents.”
This unique public-private partnership represents the nation’s largest wastewater contract and allowing MMSD and Veolia to efficiently manage public assets, maintain environmental compliance and provide millions in cost savings over the contract term.
"The work we perform in Milwaukee illustrates the very best of public-private partnerships. We are proud that our services have made a difference and will continue to have a positive impact within Milwaukee,” said William J. DiCroce, CEO for Veolia North America. "We have set the bar very high and are excited to continue our work as a partner with MMSD.”
