Michael Nicklaus Set to Visit Applecross Country Club

Pulte Homes‘ Delaware Valley Division will host Michael Nicklaus, lead designer on Applecross Country Club, as he makes a working site visit Wednesday to the area’s only 18-hole Nicklaus Design® golf course. The course is the cornerstone of Applecross Country Club, the region’s premiere lifestyle and master-planned community currently under construction in East Brandywine Township, PA. Nicklaus will walk the course with Design Associate Dave Heatwole, as well as the Applecross and Pulte teams, to review the layout and progress of each hole, as well as provide input on the next phase of the course’s development. "We are looking forward to Michael’s visit to ensure the ongoing success of the course as we continue shaping the holes and prepare for our first growing season in the spring of 2008,” says John Grierson, president of Pulte‘s Delaware Valley Division. During his review, Nicklaus will collaborate with Heatwole, who has been associated with the Nicklaus Design team for 21 years and now has his own firm, Heatwole Golf Design, Ltd. They will evaluate the integration of the course into the overall landscape of the residential community, discuss the strategy of each hole, next steps to finalize bunkers and greens, and ensure that the design concept and overall vision for the golf course is being carried out properly. "Our team at Nicklaus Design is looking to create a golf course that meets the needs and goals of the future Applecross community and its golfers,” said Nicklaus, the youngest son of golf legend Jack Nicklaus. "We are planning to design a golf course that will challenge the shot-making abilities of the low-handicap golfer, while also providing an enjoyable and memorable golf experience for the higher-handicapped player.” Nicklaus will also attend a holiday dinner on Wednesday evening for soon-to-be residents of the community. He will make several additional visits throughout course construction, with his next visit set for spring 2008. The par-72 course is expected to be ready for play by summer 2009.
