MetLife Named One of BusinessWeek’s ‘Best Places to Launch a Career’

BusinessWeek has named MetLife, Inc. to its 2009 ‘Best Places To Launch a Career’ list. Ranked at number 40, this is the second year in a row that MetLife has been included on the magazine’s annual list of top 50 companies for recent college graduates.

Moving up ten spots from last year’s ranking of number 50, MetLife’s orientation program, management development program and career advancement opportunities were highlighted by the magazine. The company offers many benefits to support career development, a healthy work-life balance and an encouraging workplace culture, including continuing education programs, tuition reimbursement, wellness programs and volunteer grant programs to support personal and professional development.

"MetLife has always been committed to promoting a rewarding and engaging work environment for our associates,” said Kathleen Henkel, senior vice president, human resources. "We are truly honored to be recognized by BusinessWeek as a company where individuals can successfully grow and develop their careers.”

BusinessWeek relies on a three-part methodology when compiling its list of 69 top companies. The magazine asks career services professionals at various colleges and universities around the country to identify the top employers for entry level workers, as well as the top employers overall. Companies were then invited to complete a survey on hiring, compensation, benefits, training practices and retention. Lastly, Philadelphia research firm, Universum Communications, provided responses from undergraduates who were asked to list their most desireable employers.

The complete list appears in the September 14 issue of BusinessWeek.
