MEDIA ALERT: IBM Executive to Deliver Address on Economic Development for Youth

WASHINGTON, April 3, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The public and private sectors need to collaborate when it comes to giving youth the skills to succeed in 21st century jobs.

That's the message that Stanley S. Litow, vice president of IBM's (NYSE: IBM) Corporate Citizenship and Corporate Affairs, will deliver tomorrow,Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at 11:00 am, at the start of PYXERA Global's two-day Global Engagement Forum Live, a facilitated collaboration in Washington, D.C., on topics pertaining to sustainable development.

Mr. Litow will offer strategies for closing the skills gap. He discussing the success of P-TECH, the IBM-inspired six-year education model that combines high school with a clear pathway to a community college degree, coupling strong academic rigor with workplace skills.

The IBM-inspired P-TECH schools are designed to open new pathways to better prepare young people for college and for "new collar" careers in the United States – skilled positions that don't always require four-year college degrees. The schools make it easier to cultivate the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) skills that underpin some of the nation's fastest growing industries and new collar careers.

The Global Engagement Forum Live, hosted by PYXERA Global this April 4 – 5 in Washington, D.C. (FHI 360 Building, 1825 Connecticut Ave NW, Washington, DC 20009. Connecticut Avenue entrance, 8th floor) focuses on the "Sustainable Development Goals" — also known as the Global Goals — especially the need for collaboration across the public, private, and social sectors to make progress towards them.

Throughout two days of facilitated collaboration, an interdisciplinary group of thinkers from across the three sectors will work to create collaborative action on three imminently solvable problems within the Global Goals: the youth skills gap, post-harvest loss, and treatable and preventable non-communicable disease. The Forum will feature innovative approaches that cut across these issues, such as partnership, global pro bono, leadership, and new models that are driving game-changing progress on these three areas.
