Matt Carey Named Chief Technology Officer for eBay Marketplaces

eBay (Nasdaq:EBAY) (www.ebay.com) today announced thatMatt Carey will join the company as Chief Technology Officer andSenior Vice President for eBay Marketplaces, effective February 1,2006. Carey, who brings more than 20 years of experience to the role,will report to John Donahoe, President of eBay Marketplaces.

As CTO for eBay Marketplaces based in San Jose, Calif., Carey willassume responsibility for a technology organization that has built andmaintained one of the most sophisticated online transaction platformsever developed. He will be responsible for eBay's product development,architecture, project management, operations, information systems andresearch labs.

"Matt's experience in leading a large technology organization andgrowing a complex platform is unparalleled, and we are thrilled thathe is joining us," said Donahoe. "Matt will help the eBay technologyteam focus on delivering innovative new ways for our community toconnect and trade with one another."

Carey comes to eBay from Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., where he wasSenior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. With Wal-Mart formore than 20 years, Carey directed the development and execution ofthe company's technology strategy, supporting the opening of more than350 new stores and distribution centers around the globe on an annualbasis. In addition, Carey served in an advisory role for the in-storemerchandising strategy of technology-related products. Carey is veryactive in the technology industry and currently serves on advisoryboards for Hewlett-Packard, Dell Computer and IBM.

Carey will succeed Lynn Reedy, who announced in October herintention to leave eBay. Reedy played an integral role in shepherdingthe growth of the eBay platform over the past six years, most recentlyas CTO of eBay Marketplaces Product & Technology.
