Maple Reinders Breaks Ground on new Distribution Centre for Gordon Food Service
MISSISSAUGA, ON, June 19, 2018 /CNW/ - Maple Reinders had the pleasure of attending a groundbreaking service on June 18, 2018, hosted by Gordon Food Service®, for a new distribution centre being built in the Town of Ajax, Ontario. The event was also attended by local officials as well as many of the construction partners and trades working on the project.
The new 330,000 square foot facility has a great deal more automation than previous distribution centres that Gordon Food Service has built in Canada, allowing them to ship up to 60,000 packages a day. The roof of the distribution centre is also higher than usual, with a 55-foot peak to accommodate equipment requirements.
"Our relationship with Gordon Food Service goes back more than ten years as we've helped them further strengthen their presence in Canada with distribution centres out west in Alberta as well as Ontario," said Harold Reinders, President and CEO of Maple Reinders Group. "We're excited to deliver this new modern warehouse for them in the town of Ajax and look forward to continuing our successful partnership for years to come."
Added Dean Noble, President, Gordon Food Service Canada: "We're very excited about growing in the greater Toronto area and our overall business in Ontario. We began doing business in this area in the early 1990's, and while our business has now expanded coast-to-coast in Canada, Ontario will always be a big part of our company history. We also know there are very talented people here, who we hope will join us in our efforts when the new distribution centre opens next year."
Site preparation on the Ajax distribution centre is currently underway and will be ongoing throughout the summer. Foundation work will be starting mid-September, automation starting in May of next year, with a go live date for the full facility including automation set for the beginning of 2020.
