LSI Logic Names Five to Fellow Post

MILPITAS, Calif., June 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- LSI Logic Corporation today announced the appointment of five Fellows, recognized for their outstanding contributions to the development of information storage and consumer electronics technologies. Named to the new position are William Delaney, Timothy Hoglund, Robert Ober, Ranko Scepanovic and Bret Weber.

The LSI Fellow designation signifies attainment of the highest level of technical achievement and thought leadership within the LSI engineering organization.

"The LSI Fellows are a distinguished group of technical leaders within the company and our industry," said Abhi Talwalkar, LSI Logic president and chief executive officer. "As Fellows, their deep insight and experience will be broadly leveraged to further enhance our position as a leading provider of silicon, systems and software solutions for the storage and consumer markets."

LSI Fellows are appointed based on criteria measuring accomplishments in the invention of world-class technical solutions, leadership in the creation and development of industry standards and academic achievement.

"In their expanded role, they will continue to architect and design the critical next-generation technologies and solutions that are required to sustain the continued growth of digital information and content."

The LSI Fellows collectively hold nearly 200 patents, two doctorates and seven master's degrees and have been honored as LSI Inventors' of the Year six times.

The five LSI Fellows are: Dr. William Delaney

Delaney, 42, is appointed Fellow, Software Solutions Architecture, Engenio Storage Group. He joined LSI in 1995. For more than a decade, he has made outstanding contributions to the definition of major software architectures for storage system management and advanced data protection including remote replication. He is based in Bangalore, India.

Delaney holds 20 patents and was honored as the 2003 LSI Inventor of the Year and the 2004 Engenio Outstanding Inventor. He received both a bachelor's and master's degree and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Notre Dame University.

Timothy Hoglund

Hoglund, 43, is appointed Fellow, Hardware Development, Storage Components Group. With LSI for almost 20 years, he has driven significant advancements in the development of standards for storage technologies, and he has been a primary contributor to the definition of the SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) standard. He is based in Colorado Springs, Co.

Hoglund holds 16 patents and was honored as LSI Inventor of the Year in 2001. He received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Minnesota and a master's degree in computer engineering from National Technological University.

Robert Ober

Ober, 46, is appointed Fellow, Office of the CTO. He has more than 25 years of experience in developing processor and systems architectures. He joins LSI this week and will be based in Milpitas, Calif.

Previously, he was a Fellow in the Office of the CTO at Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), where he was responsible for mobile hardware and software product strategy, embedded platform solutions and wireless strategies. Prior to joining AMD, he was chief architect at Infineon Technologies where he was responsible for award-winning processor and system architectures, methodology innovations and restructuring the mobile phone platform family.

Ober holds nine patents. He received a bachelor's degree with honors in applied science and systems design engineering from the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

Dr. Ranko Scepanovic

Scepanovic, 51, is appointed Vice President and Fellow, Advanced Development, Custom Solutions Group. He joined LSI in 1993. His extensive technical accomplishments include the development of innovative configurable memory solutions and industry-leading EDA tools for custom silicon design. He is based in Milpitas, Calif.

Scepanovic holds 124 patents as either inventor or co-inventor and was honored as LSI Inventor of the Year in 1996. He was also presented with the CEO Award of Excellence in 1996. He received a Ph.D. in mathematical sciences from the University of Belgrade in the former Yugoslavia.

Bret Weber

Weber, 45, is appointed Fellow, Strategic Planning and Architecture, Engenio Storage Group. He has a 23-year history with LSI. Since 1995, he has provided high-level architectural direction for the development of storage solutions. He has also had a significant impact on the development of industry standards, originating the Data Integrity Field proposal which became an ANSI standard in 2004. Currently, he serves on the board of directors of the OpenFabric Alliance. He is based in Wichita, Kan.

Weber holds 28 patents and was honored as LSI Inventor of the Year in 2001 and 2002. He received a bachelor's and master's degree in electrical engineering from Wichita State University.
