The vast majority of Americans have an opinion on the subject.  While the majority disapprove, the poll found that 35 percent of voters approve of the decision, and just 8 percent were undecided.

Conducted entirely via SMS text message, the Hornstein poll is a departure from the more traditional polling methods utilized by other organizations.

"This poll is based on an operating process that is targeting voters entirely through mobile devices, enabling us to procure responses in a highly efficient manner," stated LIU Political Science Professor Stanley B. Klein.  "In this poll, the respondents reflected their resolute disagreement with President Donald Trump to remove FBI Director James Comey."

The May 9 announcement that President Trump had fired FBI Director Comey attained national media coverage, explaining the salience of this nationwide survey.  Consistent with the partisan polarization that is factoring into the public's views of many decisions, the LIU poll found that Republican overwhelmingly approved of the President's decision by a 69/23 margin while Democrats disapproved by a 13/76 margin.  Independents and unaffiliated voters disapproved of the firing of Directory Comey by a 37/56 margin.
