Kyocera's iBurst(TM) Mobile Broadband Network Established in Kuala Lumpur
Kyocera Corporation (President: Makoto Kawamura) announced today
that iZZinet Sdn Bhd (formerly known as MoBif Wireless Broadband Sdn
Bhd) has become the first iBurst operator in the ASEAN region,
installing a network of 50 iBurst base stations in Kuala Lumpur, the
capital of Malaysia, and the surrounding metropolitan Klang Valley.
iZZinet Sdn Bhd was awarded the operating licenses of Network Facilities
Provider (NFP) and Network Services Provider (NSP) by the Malaysian
Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) on 28 March 2007. Since
2 October 2007, iZZinet has been offering iBurst wireless broadband
communication services to an area covering approximately 80 percent of
the metro Klang Valley, home to about 4.5 million people.
As a result, iZZinet has become the second largest iBurst operator in
the world after South Africa’s Wireless
Business Solutions (Pty) Ltd, which has built a network of 215 base
stations since 2004. iZZinet‘s expansion plan
includes adding 70 iBurst base stations in Klang Valley by the end of
December 2007; 20 base stations in Kuching by early 2008; 10 base
stations in Johore Baru by mid 2008; and 10 base stations in Penang
around the same time period.
Within the next two years, iZZinet’s goal is
to give Malaysia the best wireless broadband technology, with the most
stable, most reliable network infrastructure, at affordable prices and
with true mobility.
Kyocera Corporation‘s iBurst wireless
broadband solution, based on HC-SDMA, is an ideal technology for the
ASEAN region. iBurst has been commercialized in more than 10 countries
since 2004, including Australia, South Africa, Republic of Azerbaijan,
Lebanon, Norway, Ghana, Kenya, USA, Canada, Tanzania and Malaysia.
Kyocera’s iBurst technology roadmap calls for
upgrading the system’s downlink speed from 1
Mbps to 2 Mbps by early 2008.
iBurst operators worldwide have formed the iBurst Association (iBA), a
not-for-profit enterprise advocating the promotion and development of
iBurst technology as the preferred solution for mobile broadband
wireless access (MBWA). The iBA is registered with Registrar of Society
of Malaysia, with a secretariat based in Penang.
