JD.com CEO Liu Arrested In US Over Sexual Misconduct Charges
(RTTNews) - Chinese billionaire Liu Qiangdong, the chief executive of Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com Inc., was arrested in Minnesota on suspicion of sexual misconduct. However, he was released on Saturday pending possible criminal charges.
Liu was arrested and detained on Friday at the Hennepin County Jail, according to booking records. But, was released after 4 p.m. Saturday, with records showing no posted bail.
"During a business trip to the United States, Mr. Liu was questioned by police in Minnesota in relation to an unsubstantiated accusation," the company said Sunday in a statement, WSJ reports. "The local police quickly determined there was no substance to the claim against Mr. Liu, and he was subsequently able to resume his journey."
JD.com is one of China's largest online retailers. JD is popular for its quick delivery, which includes groceries, office supplies and clothing. The retailer also delivers using drones.
