New Dynamic System Partitioning Capability Underscores Unmatched Flexibility of Intervoice Omvia(R) Media Exchange

Intervoice, Inc. (Nasdaq:INTV), the world leader in converged voice and data solutions, today announced a new dynamic system partitioning capability to benefit carriers, ASPs and mobile virtual network operators (MVNO). As a new feature of the recently announced Intervoice Omvia(R) Media Exchange, a flexible, open multimedia enhanced services solution, dynamic system partitioning allows providers to divide up their current messaging system into multiple systems that can be resold to MVNOs for additional resell revenue streams.
A Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) is a mobile operator that usually does not have its own network infrastructure. Instead, MVNOs have business arrangements with traditional mobile operators to buy minutes of use (MOU) for sale to their own customers. MVNOs sell mobile services under their own brand names using the network of a licensed mobile operator.
According to Gartner, a leading industry analyst firm, the advent of the wholesaling market also reflects the maturity of the cellular market, as wholesaling is a way to reach smaller niches in the marketplace. For telecom providers, wireless could create a channel for selling other telecom services. For instance, a customer calls to inquire about wireless service and is offered a number of other telecom services, such as local, long-distance and broadband. This could be an effective strategy, especially if customers see it as a way to save money.(a)
The new dynamic system partitioning capability enables carriers and ASPs to have an additional way to generate revenue, with significant margin potential, by reselling operations. For example, a carrier with Intervoice Omvia Media Exchange can divide or partition the system into multiple systems and sell enhanced services, such as messaging, to resellers. This allows the provider to leverage the existing system and resell services from it at a comparatively low cost. The system can then be configured precisely how the reseller wants - either exactly the same as the providers system, or very different in terms of features/functionality. The system administration, recording and statistics are all partitioned and managed independently by the reseller. In addition, different voice personas per partitioned system are possible.
"Carriers are able to extend their market penetration and profitability while leaving retail specifics to MVNOs who in turn have full system management and can provide unique, valuable services with complete transparency to subscribers," said Ron Nieman, Intervoice Senior Vice President and General Manager, Network Strategic Market Unit. "Powered by the incredible flexibility of Intervoice Omvia Media Exchange, this new capability is a solid, revenue-generating offering that benefits carriers, ASPs and MVNOs alike."
