ALBERT LEA, Minn., April 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Interstate Power and Light Company (IP&L), a subsidiary of Alliant Energy Corporation announced today that the company will file a request for an electric service rate change with the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (MPUC) on or about May 16, 2005.

The request seeks to recover the costs of constructing Emery Generating Station, a 565 megawatt combined-cycle natural gas generating facility which began operation in May 2004, infrastructure improvements and other business costs associated with providing safe, reliable and environmentally sound service to IP&L's electric service customers.
"Our company has made major investments in Minnesota's energy infrastructure. These investments benefit all our Minnesota electric customers," said Tom Aller, President-IP&L. "They provide our Minnesota customers with safe, reliable and environmentally responsible electricity, while advancing long-term economic growth in Minnesota."
The rate case request will seek an annual overall average revenue increase of approximately $4.5 million (6.6 percent). The specific percentage impact upon customers' total bill will vary by customer class.
With the filing, IP&L is requesting an interim rate increase of approximately $3 million (4.4 percent). Interim rates will likely be set in July. They are subject to refund and will remain in effect until the MPUC issues a final rate case decision and approves the permanent rates.
