International Rectifier Compact Fluorescent Lamp Control Chip Named EDN ``Hot 100'' Product of 2004

    Technology Editors

EL SEGUNDO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 14, 2005--International Rectifier, IR(r) (NYSE:IRF), today announced that their innovative power management IC for energy-efficient compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) has been selected as one of EDN magazine's "Hot 100" products for 2004. The IR2520D was one of only six analog ICs selected for the Hot 100.
The CFL control IC can adapt to changing supply voltage, frequency and lamp conditions to increase lamp life and reliability. The CFL chip includes a circuit that maintains soft switching, regardless of supply voltage, frequency and lamp conditions. At the heart of this IC is a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) with an externally programmable minimum frequency.
"Our IR2520D has captured the attention of the industry for CFL designs, featuring innovative design techniques like IR's exclusive high voltage junction isolation technology and our adaptive control techniques. Other compact fluorescent lamp ballasts use a self-oscillating bipolar transistor solution that requires more components and circuitry," said David Tam, International Rectifier Vice President, Consumer and Industrial Sector Business.
More details on IR's complete line of energy-saving lighting solutions can be found on the International Rectifier lighting products Web site, http://lighting.irf.com/. The complete "Hot 100" listing appears in EDN's December 17, 2004 issue and at www.edn.com. EDN is published by Reed Business Information, headquartered in Newton, Massachusetts.
