Business Editors/Entertainment Editors/TV Writers
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 6, 2005--TV Guide Publishing Group today announced that its highly anticipated new weekly publication, Inside TV, has named Debra Birnbaum as executive editor. The first television magazine created exclusively for young women, Inside TV is set to debut on April 21 with TV-centric news, stories, styles and trends. TV Guide Publishing Group is publisher of TV Guide magazine, the country's largest selling weekly magazine.
A lifestyle editor seasoned in covering breaking news, Ms. Birnbaum has nearly 15 years experience as a writer and editor. Most recently, she served as the features editor for the New York Post, covering pop culture, arts & entertainment, lifestyle and New York City trends. She oversaw special New York Post sections on the Academy Awards, the Tony Awards and the final season of "Friends." Prior to joining the New York Post, Ms. Birnbaum was a senior editor at Us Weekly, George, Redbook, More and New Woman, where she covered a range of beats from news and politics to arts and entertainment, among others. She's also written on those subjects for magazines including InStyle, Hamptons and Newsday.
In her new role, Ms. Birnbaum will report to recently appointed Editor-in-Chief Steve LeGrice. Ms. Birnbaum and Mr. LeGrice will collaborate to infuse Inside TV with a vibrant editorial perspective. Ms. Birnbaum will oversee seven editors who will directly report to her.
"Today's younger woman has a different, stronger and more special relationship to TV than ever before, and Debra understands this as well as anybody in the business," said Mr. LeGrice. "She brings experience and enthusiasm, and not only recognizes what makes a good story, but intuitively knows what women are interested in when it comes to TV -- whether it's the shows, stars, styles or something behind the scenes."
"It's thrilling to launch a type of magazine that hasn't been done before," added Ms. Birnbaum. "I welcome the challenge, and am confident that Inside TV can bring exciting content and an insider's perspective to all of those 18-to-35 year-old women who live and breathe television."
Ms. Birnbaum graduated with a B.S. in Communications from Cornell University. She resides in New York City.
