The African region accounted for 91% of the total global mortalities.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the prevalence of Lyme disease in the U.S. among men was 8.1 people per 100,000 in 2016. Lyme disease, which was previously restricted to the eastern parts of the country, is now spreading to other regions. Many global regions have witnessed an upsurge in cases of the Zika virus. According to the WHO, approximately 70 countries have reported incidences of the Zika virus since 2007, and of that 53 first reported an outbreak since 2015. In 2015, the Zika virus caused a widespread epidemic in Brazil and then spread to other parts of South and North America, as well as to several islands in the Pacific and Southeast Asia. Globally, more than
200,000 cases of Zika were observed in 2015.
