InDoc Addresses Emergency Department Inefficiencies with Novel TeleTriage Solution
DALLAS, May 2, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- InDoc, a clinical telehealth company created to improve the emergency department (ED) experience, today announced a scalable healthcare solution for decreasing inefficiencies and augmenting ED staff. As COVID-19 continues to take a toll on the health and wellbeing of emergency department staff, hospitals are planning for the expected post-COVID-19 surge. InDoc has a large network of experienced Emergency Physicians that provide TeleTriage, a novel solution designed to operate alongside and complement existing staff. TeleTriage can be implemented at a fraction of the time and cost that would normally be required for hospitals to hire and train additional medical staff, and recently updated licensing accommodations support telemedicine as a standard practice.
InDoc Emergency Physicians are trained, prepared, and available to support one or multiple hospitals within a health system, and are available in nearly every state. A single InDoc physician can be available to evaluate patients in multiple locations simultaneously. In the setting of COVID-19 screening, InDoc's digital front-line solution reduces the downstream risk to other healthcare providers and reduces the need for personal protective equipment (PPE). Additionally, new guidelines set forth by Centers for Medicaid and Medicare (CMS) now allow hospitals to conduct EMTALA-mandated medical screening exams (MSEs) via telehealth, when appropriate. This allows InDoc physicians, in some cases, to virtually conduct the entire emergency department visit, which magnifies the benefits attained with virtual screening.
"COVID-19 has placed considerable stress on emergency departments that were already over capacity even before the pandemic. It's clear, too, that COVID-19 is going to be with us for some time to come," said Erin Christianson, CEO, InDoc. "Fortunately, a silver lining of the pandemic is that telehealth has been embraced by health systems and accepted by patients as a viable way to receive healthcare. This will result in more efficient medical care both within and outside the hospital walls."
InDoc provides a range of services from a turn-key solution that includes the technology and staffing, to consultation and assistance in the implementation of a TeleTriage program. InDoc also has the flexibility to utilize a health system's current technology, if desired.
TeleTriage greatly reduces door-to-doctor times as well as left-without-being-seen (LWBS) rates. Christianson notes that the reduction in LWBS will result in more patients receiving care in the hospital's ED. This alone will often fund the entire program. Additionally, the overall time a patient spends in the department is decreased, resulting in more capacity without the need to add beds or hire extra staff.
"InDoc's robust service is rarely cost prohibitive when weighed against the cost savings and benefits," said Christianson. "With TeleTriage, EDs are able to efficiently care for more patients while simultaneously providing them with a more positive experience." She added, "Above all else, patient safety is significantly increased, as patients are rapidly seen by a physician with fewer leaving without treatment."
The company stresses that the need for TeleTriage in emergency departments will remain long after the current spikes in COVID-19 cases.
"Millions of people with chronic conditions have heeded warnings and delayed getting medical care," added Christianson. "Once stay-at-home guidelines are lifted, emergency departments will still be on alert for COVID-19 patients while being inundated with patients experiencing exacerbations of their chronic diseases, as well as more routine ED visits."
