Immersion Announces First Apps Designed Using MOTIV™ Development Platform

Immersion Corporation (NASDAQ:IMMR), a leading developer and licensor of touch feedback technology, today announced the first applications designed by third-party developers which incorporate haptic effects by using Immersion’s recently announced MOTIV SDK.

The MOTIV™ SDK provides easy-to-use tools for developers to integrate haptic effects into Android applications. While Android handsets and tablets offer a range of haptic experiences, Immersion’s MOTIV platform ensures that touch effects are optimized based on each device’s underlying technology and control software.

"What impressed me about the MOTIV platform was the user experience,” explains Ezra Smith of FridgeCat Software. "With Immersion’s UHL tool, the phone isn’t just buzzing at our users, the phone actually feels like a ball is colliding with an obstacle. And what also makes it easy is that the tools behave consistently across Android devices, so I don’t have to spend time fine-tuning the experience. I can maintain the same degree of realism across different phones.”

Neil Wilkinson at Measured Software agrees. "I’ve worked to incorporate haptics into my apps in the past, and the tools Immersion has provided have really expanded not only the quality of feedback available but also the number of devices that are supported.”

Currently available on the Android Market are a number of applications that utilize the MOTIV SDK, including:

  • Antigen by Battery Powered Games – an attack-oriented puzzle game
  • aTilt 3D Labyrinth and aTilt 3D Labyrinth Free by FridgeCat Software – a labyrinth-style maze game
  • Beats, Advanced Rhythm by Keripo – advanced music-based rhythm game for Android
  • Deadly Chambers, Deadly Chambers HD and Deadly Chambers Free by Battery Powered Games – an over-the-shoulder shooter
  • DiceShaker D&D, DiceShaker 3D and DiceShaker 3D Free by Pallosalama – dice roller applications with beautiful graphics and advanced physics engine
  • Enzo’s Pinball by Haptify, Inc – engaging pinball action
  • Galataxi and Galataxi Lite by Measured Software – a space taxi adventure
  • Hextacy and Hextacy Lite by Magnus Lorentzon - a hex-based color matching puzzle game
  • Solo & Solo Lite by Coding Caveman – Android’s most popular virtual guitars

"We’re thrilled with the Android development community’s eagerness to adopt the Immersion MOTIV SDK. We continue to invest in our developer relations program to ensure that the community has the support and tools needed to develop quality haptic experiences for their applications,” explains Dennis Sheehan, vice president of marketing for Immersion. "Most importantly, we’re excited to see how developers immediately connect with our technology and see the possibility of how touch effects can enhance mobile apps. We look forward to helping mobile developers innovate as they experiment with our technology.”
