Illumina Launches MiSeq FGx Forensic Genomics System - Quick Facts

(RTTNews) - Illumina Inc. (ILMN) said it has launched the MiSeq FGx Forensic Genomics System, the first fully-validated forensic next-generation sequencing or NGS system. The system simultaneously interrogates short tandem repeats or STR and other valuable genetic markers, including single nucleotide polymorphisms or SNPs, to provide informative DNA profiles.

The MiSeq FGx System, designed in collaboration with leading forensic genomics and human identification experts, leverages Illumina's sequencing by synthesis or SBS chemistry, the most widely adopted NGS technology. In addition to the MiSeq FGx DNA sequencer, the system includes the ForenSeq DNA Signature Prep Kit and ForenSeq Universal Analysis Software, thus bringing sample-to-answer sequencing to forensic laboratories.

Illumina noted that the MiSeq FGx Forensic Genomics System is now shipping.
