IDG Computerworld Honors Program Awards Seven Hitachi Data Systems Customers Laureate Status
Hitachi Data Systems Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi,
Ltd. (NYSE: HIT) and the only provider of Services Oriented Storage
Solutions, today announced that seven of its customers have been
recognized as Laureates by the IDG Computerworld Honors Program. For
almost two decades, Computerworld Honors has acknowledged those
individuals and organizations that have used information technology to
benefit society. Hitachi customers Atos Origin, GMarket, Intellidyn,
MedAvant Healthcare Solutions, Midwest Independent Transmission System
Operator, Pieper and Associates and South Carolina Computer Crime Center
will be presented the award tonight during the 19th
Annual Laureates Medal Ceremony & Gala Awards Evening at the Andrew W.
Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C.
"The Computerworld Honors Program seeks to
recognize organizations, from a variety of sectors, for their ongoing
efforts to utilize technology in order to benefit society,”
said Bob Carrigan, chairman of the Computerworld Honors Program Chairmen’s
Committee and president, IDG Communications. "From
supporting electricity systems in the Midwestern U.S. to helping lower
power consumption in data centers, Hitachi and its customers are on the
leading edge of using information technology to promote positive social,
economic and educational change.”
Each year, members of the Chairmen's Committee, a group of 100
Chairman/CEOs of global technology, nominate individuals and
organizations around the world whose visionary applications of
information technology promote positive social and economic progress.
"Hitachi Data Systems works very closely with
its customers to deliver the technology innovations that allow them to
overcome their business challenges and ultimately deliver broader
benefits to their local communities,” said
Brenda Peffer, vice president of Global Marketing at Hitachi Data
Systems. "We congratulate our customers for
their recognition on their innovative use of Hitachi storage solutions.”
Hitachi Data Systems provides a broad range of Services Oriented Storage
Solutions that apply service-oriented architecture (SOA) concepts to
storage to deliver a platform that offers sets of automated functions
delivered as services to the business which can be invoked as needed.
Hitachi Services Oriented Storage Solutions offer companies the ability
to present business clients with a menu of storage attributes such as
performance, availability, cost and security, and charge for those
services based on the client’s selection.
Atos Origin
In order to facilitate the high-speed data migration required by its
clients, Atos Origin selected Hitachi Data Systems to provide storage
solutions that manage its data center storage simply and
cost-effectively. By partnering with Hitachi Data Systems, Atos Origin
reduced internal storage costs and regained an edge in the highly
competitive IT services and consulting space by passing its savings on
to customers.

growth rate that exceeded hardware expectations. The key business
advantage for an online retailer is having stable and quick IT system,
which will make customers come back to the site and recommend it to
their friends. Storage solutions from Hitachi Data Systems enable
Gmarket to provide a unique open market business model, facilitating
quick, secure and convenient transactions between buyers and sellers of
an ever-growing inventory of products.

Intellidyn
Intellidyn is an analytic driven, multi-channel database marketing
solutions provider specializing in optimizing target marketing, risk

MedAvant Healthcare Solutions
Relying on one data center posed the threat of downtime that would
affect MedAvant’s huge network of healthcare
providers and consequently their patients. The company selected Hitachi
Data Systems to develop a storage infrastructure for the company’s
two data centers. Hitachi Data Systems delivered a crucial disaster
recovery service to ensure the regular flow of medical correspondence on
a daily basis and the continual ability to offer administrative services
to the healthcare community.
Midwest ISO
The Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator, Inc. (Midwest ISO)
needed to replace its existing storage platform and after significant
analysis awarded the contract to Hitachi Data Systems / Sun solution.
The Hitachi Data Systems/Sun solution enabled the company to implement a
tiered storage solution that ensures the availability and reliability of
the electric system supporting 15 Midwestern US states and one Canadian
province 24 hours a day each and every day. The storage system supports
the critical real-time applications that company operations personnel
use to manage 93,600 miles of transmission lines and 1,500 generating
units across 920,000 square miles of Midwest ISO’s
footprint.
Pieper and Associates
For Pieper and Associates, a full-service advertising and design firm
that recently tripled its workforce and boasts a growing client roster,
managing storage without adequate IT resources was becoming a painfully
creative process. The agency chose an entry-level storage solution from
Hitachi Data Systems to address data growth and ensure business
continuity. The Hitachi storage solution helped the company find a
reliable way to protect the lifeblood of the organization –
client design files.

the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, the United States Secret
Service and the FBI. Using Hitachi Data Systems storage solutions, the
Computer Crime Center investigators were able to work on multiple cases
at once and access forensic data more quickly. The improved application
performance helped to increase productivity —
allowing investigators to rapidly solve computer crimes and ensure
criminals are where they belong – behind bars.
