Hypercom's medCompact is First Terminal to Complete Functional Testing for Germany's New Electronic Health Card

Hypercom Corporation (NYSE: HYC) today announced that its medCompact has become the first healthcare terminal to pass e-Health BCS (Basic Command Set) functional tests required by Gematik, the German healthcare organization. medCompact will be deployed in significant volume in the second half of this year as part of the migration to the country’s new health card. Germany’s e-Health card program is one of the largest IT projects worldwide with a planned deployment of more than 80 million electronic health insurance cards. "The successful functional testing of medCompact marks a significant milestone in the launch of our new medline portfolio,” explains Frank Büttner, Healthcare Director at Hypercom. "Crossing this important hurdle moves us to the forefront of the new health card introduction.” Hypercom’s medCompact is designed to process both the current German health insurance card (KVK1) and the new electronic healthcare card (eGK2). The terminal, which will be installed in doctor’s practices and hospitals, was launched in test regions earlier this year and has been well received by software integrators and medical practitioners alike. Hypercom’s medCompact sets new standards for health card devices. With a large, high contrast display and embossed keys, it provides an intuitive and highly secure authentication system for all service providers in the healthcare industry. In addition to accepting patient cards, it accommodates up to eight different medical practitioner cards, making it well suited to environments where several health care professionals operate at the same time.
