Hughes Network Systems Increases Protection of DIRECWAY Subscribers Against Spam and Email Security Threats

GERMANTOWN, Md., Aug. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HNS) today announced it will deliver an enhanced e-mail defense service to DIRECWAY(R) consumer and small business subscribers. The service will improve the broadband experience for more than 250,000 current DIRECWAY users through the addition of leading-edge spam and virus-fighting tools, using technology provided by MX Logic, Inc.

"HNS selected MX Logic technology because it blocks up to 98 percent of spam and protects customers' inboxes from viruses, worms, phishing attacks, and other email threats. We expect it will reduce spam-related costs by approximately 90 percent, saving DIRECWAY subscribers both time and money while ensuring their peace of mind-a key concern for HNS," said Peter Gulla, HNS vice president.

According to a recent study by the PEW Internet American Life Project, 91 percent of Internet users said they made at least one change in their online behavior to protect their computers from unwanted elements such as spyware and viruses. DIRECWAY's enhanced e-email defense services will provide subscribers with a combination of proven spam filters, anti-virus engines, fraud protection, content and attachment filtering, and e-mail attack protection, empowering them with more control and better protection.

"E-mail has become an indispensable tool in our daily lives, and consumers need assistance in combating an increasing number of unwanted email and threats," continued Gulla. "We want to make sure that we are doing everything in our power to prevent our subscribers from falling victim to these threats, and we believe we've found the best protection available for them. With this new email defense service, DIRECWAY subscribers will have a safer, more enjoyable broadband experience."

At the heart of the MX Logic Email Defense solutions is MX Logic's patent- pending Stacked Classification Framework(R) -- a multi-layered spam-detection system that combines the industry's most powerful spam-fighting techniques. The proven spam filters in the Stacked Classification Framework are part of MX Logic's 20-plus layers of email defense.
