Honda To Recall Additional 100K Vehicles In U.S. To Replace Airbags

(RTTNews) - Honda Motor Corp. (HMC) announced a recall of an additional 105,000 vehicles in U.S. due to flawed airbags. As in the earlier recalls, the faulty Takata airbag inflator is the culprit here too. The Japanese car maker is planning to replace the driver side frontal air bag inflator in all the affected vehicles.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the latest recall include 2001 Accord, 2004 Civic Sedan and 2008 Pilot vehicles. Out of these 89,000 are Pilot Vehicles and 11000 are Civic Sedan.

Airbag issue was first detected in 2008 and till date more than 17 million vehicles have reportedly been recalled. Rupture of airbags has caused five deaths around the globe.

Honda has been campaigning through media advertisements and customized Facebook posts to alert the customers. The campaign was focused on mainly 11 states and U.S. territories that would have higher risk, considering increased humidity level and other factors.

Honda has recalled more than 6 million vehicles in the U.S. due to the faulty airbags made by Takata. The issue was more prevalent among older model vehicles and in regions where humidity is high.
