Honda Achieves 300 Mln-unit Milestone In Motorcycle Production

(RTTNews) - Japanese automaker Honda Motor Co., Ltd. (HMC) Tuesday said its cumulative worldwide motorcycle production reached the 300 million-unit milestone in September.

The Gold Wing 40th Anniversary Edition became the 300 millionth motorcycle that Honda produced globally.

According to the firm, the milestone was reached in the 66th year since it started motorcycle production in 1949 with the Dream Type-D. Production outside Japan began in Belgium in 1963.

Honda said it is currently producing motorcycles at 33 plants in 22 countries.

The firm stated that it held a ceremony at Kumamoto Factory, its primary motorcycle production plant in Japan, to celebrate the achievement.

Takanobu Ito, president and CEO of Honda Motor said, "...Honda was able to reach the 300 million-unit milestone. We will continue to provide products that will please our customers in each country and region in the world."

For its recent second quarter, the company had reported 4.3 percent growth in net sales to 3.015 trillion yen, mainly due to a rise in motorcycle and automobile unit sales as well as the positive impact of foreign exchange effects.

HMC closed Monday's regular trading at $31.68, down $0.06 or 0.19%.
