Home Depot Fires Man With 'Isis' Tattoo

(RTTNews) - An employee at home improvement retailer Home Depot Inc (HD) was reportedly fired from his job for an inner-lip tattoo of "Isis", which according to him was the name of his ex-girl friend.

The employee, Kirk Soccorso, said he wasn't aware that "Isis", name of an Egyptian goddess, also denotes the Islamic State - a terrorist Sunni Muslim group that has captured swathes of Iraq and Syria, and has beheaded several western hostages. The group is being targeted by an international coalition led by the U.S.

According to the reports, Kirk Soccorso, working as a Home Depot tool demonstrator in Patchogue, New York, during a casual conversation overheard the term "Isis" and showed his tattoo to a co-worker. Consequently, he was fired from his job.

"I feel a little lost," Soccorso was reported to have told News 12 Long Island. "It was a good-paying job."

Soccorso says he is not a terrorist and that he got the tattoo four years ago, adding he is no longer with his girl friend who bears the name "Isis."

Soccorso said it was never his intention to scare anyone when he showed the tattoo.

Soccorso is reportedly considering legal action against Home Depot.

Meanwhile Home Depot spokesman Stephen Holmes told News 12 that the termination was a personnel matter and the decision wasn't just based on the tattoo.

Incidentally, "Isis" is the second track on the Bob Dylan album Desire. It was written by Bob Dylan in collaboration with Jacques Levy.
