Home Depot Braces For Spring Season By Hiring 80,000 Workers

(RTTNews) - Home Depot Inc. (HD) said Tuesday it has started to hire more than 80,000 seasonal workers as it braces for spring, the home improvement retailer's busiest selling season.

Home Depot is now recruiting for positions both in its stores and distribution facilities, as customers begin to beautify their lawns and embark on new home improvement projects as the weather warms up. The drop in gas prices and low interest rates are also encouraging home owners to invest in re-modeling and landscaping.

Home Depot is filling positions ranging from sales and cashiers to operations and online order fulfillment. Jobs include both permanent part-time and seasonal positions.

Home Depot said this spring, it will equip its associates with the next generation of its in-store mobile technology, called the FIRST Phone. The company has deployed about forty thousand new web-enabled devices to help stores speed checkout through 'line-busting' and help associates to locate products, check inventory on hand, or explain product features.

Home Depot also said it is hiring more than 5,500 associates in Canada for operational and sales positions across all 181 store locations. Home Depot Canada has scheduled more than 370 career events across Canada to hire workers.

HD is trading at $109.07, up $0.73 or 0.67 percent on a volume of 21,567 shares.
