Hitachi Hosts American Teachers in Japan
Hitachi America, Ltd., a subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE:HIT), today
announced that four teachers from the U.S. are taking part in an
educational and cultural exchange venue in Japan as part of Hitachi’s
long-standing International School Teachers Exchange Program (HISTEP)
that began in 1987.
The HISTEP program provides educators from the U.S., Canada, Europe,
Australia and Japan with the opportunity to experience each other’s
educational system and society, and promote the open exchange of ideas
between cultures.
The four teachers will tour and observe classes at schools in Tokyo and
Hitachi City as well as meet local education, government and business
leaders, stay with families of a Hitachi employee, and tour points of
interest in the respective cities, including visiting several Hitachi
facilities before returning to the U.S. The tour runs June 23 through
July 7.
Masahide Tanigaki, president and CEO of Hitachi America, Ltd., said, "We
are proud that the HISTEP program provides Hitachi with the opportunity
to promote and support education and the mutual understanding among
different cultures. For the last 20 years, HISTEP teachers have had the
opportunity to observe another culture and share the experience with
their students. Some 140 educators have been part of this program, since
it began in 1987.”
The North America-based teachers in this year’s
program are Doug Aldrich of Newmarket, Ontario Canada from Balmoral Dr.
Senior Public School in Brampton, Ontario; Marian Arnold Becker of
Danville, Kentucky, from the Burgin Independent Middle School, Burgin,
Kentucky; Suzanne Davis of Irvington, New York from Sleepy Hollow High
