During panel discussions at the event, Hexagon executives will address key topics for smart cities:
- Engaging and Empowering People Using Data and Digital Innovations – Claudio Simão, Chief Technology Officer of Hexagon ABDigital innovations can help empower civic society by improving engagement in democratic processes. Yet, with all the apps and platforms available, it's hard to set out a model of citizen engagement going beyond the digital suggestion box and bearing in mind privacy and security related issues. How can city managers better leverage data to model engagement? How can they avoid being drowned in feedback while being inclusive?
- Bend Not Break: Preparing Our Cities to Respond to Emergencies and Disasters – Steven Cost, President of Hexagon Safety & InfrastructureCities are vulnerable to natural and human-caused disasters. Hence, they need to be ready to respond effectively and ensure that a comprehensive, all-hazard emergency plan is set to address threats specific to their unique circumstances. Yet, transitioning from day-to-day duties to emergency operations requires a clear definition of roles and responsibilities. How can cities better prepare to cope with emergencies and boost resilience?
- Rethinking Urban Infrastructures in the Digital Age – Uwe Jasnoch, Director of Government, Transportation & Defence at Hexagon Safety & InfrastructureThe infrastructure that cities provide has evolved as needs changed and opportunities arose. Today, sensors check air quality, roadway cameras help with traffic flow and new energy systems have come to fruition. This evolution has the potential to have the greatest impact, as long as it involves citizens and leverages their creativity and innovation. How can local governments rethink urban infrastructures so they better serve city dwellers?
