HarperCollins Sells Over 1.1 Mln Copies Of Go Set A Watchman
(RTTNews) - HarperCollins Publishers, a subsidiary of News Corp (NWS, NWSA), on Monday said that more than 1.1 million copies of Harper Lee's Go Set a Watchman have been sold by booksellers in the U.S. and Canada, making it the fastest selling book in the company's history.
The company said it also printed more than 150,000 copies of the Spanish-language edition for the U.S., Latin America, and Spain. The book went on sale Tuesday, July 14.
HarperCollins said it has now gone back to print on the title multiple times, and currently has more than 3.3 million books in print.
"First week sales of Go Set a Watchman have far exceeded our expectations," said Brian Murray, President and CEO of HarperCollins Publishers. "Bringing this book to market has been an amazing effort by thousands of people - from our publishing teams to booksellers large and small."
Upon release, Go Set a Watchman immediately jumped to #1 on every major book retailer's bestseller list.
Set against the backdrop of the civil rights tensions and political turmoil that were transforming the South in the 1950s, Go Set a Watchman is a bold and deeply moving story about humanity, close-knit family relationships, and one woman's journey to become her own person.
