Hagerstown Business College Student One of Eleven Recipients of William Donald Schaefer Scholarship

HAGERSTOWN, Md., Aug. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Daniel Baker, a criminal justice major at Hagerstown Business College was recently honored as one of only eleven recipients statewide of the William Donald Schaefer Scholarship. Named in honor of Maryland's former Governor, this award provides funding to full- time students who are preparing for careers in public service. There are 20 recipients total, including nine renewals from last year and 11 new awardees for this year. A total of $150,000 will be awarded to those 20 students.

Recipients must be Maryland residents who demonstrate need and are either enrolled or planning to enroll full-time in a course of study, training or other educational activities at an eligible Maryland postsecondary institution in a program designed to prepare the student for a career in public service. Award candidates must also demonstrate need. The total amount of a William Donald Schaefer Scholarship award may be equal to tuition and fees at the institution attended, however the total Dollar amount may not exceed $8,550.

Baker, along with the other scholarship recipients were honored at a reception in Annapolis attended by former governor Schaefer and Dr. Calvin W. Burnett, Maryland's Secretary of Higher Education on July 27, 2006.
