(RTTNews) - Automotive retailer Group 1 Automotive Inc. (GPI) Thursday said its second-quarter net income climbed to $46.31 million from $16.86 million in the prior year. Earnings per share surged to $1.91 from $0.62.

Adjusted earnings per share were $1.98, while it totaled $1.47 in the prior year. On average, nine analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected earnings of $1.81 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Total revenue increased 8.6 percent to an all-time quarterly record of $2.726 billion from $2.512 billion. On a constant currency basis, revenues grew 11.7 percent. Analysts expected revenues of $2.71 billion.
