Government accepts recommendations of the Auditor General in 2018 Spring Reports

OTTAWA, May 29, 2018 /CNW/ - The Government of Canada is committed to improving the delivery of programs and services to Canadians. The government values the work of the Auditor General, thanks him for his 2018 Spring Reports, and has accepted all 41 recommendations.

Included in the 7 reports is the Auditor General's second report on the Phoenix Pay System, as well as those on economic gaps on First Nations reserves, consular services and the new Champlain Bridge project. In many instances, the government is already taking action to address the Auditor General's findings. For example, considerable efforts are being undertaken to address public servants' pay problems, to renew the relationship between the government and Indigenous peoples, to improve the military justice system and to more effectively manage infrastructure investments.

Furthermore, through Budget 2018, the government is making key investments in areas that were the focus of the Auditor General's studies. This includes $2 billion for a new Indigenous Skills and Employment Training Program and significant investments to fix the federal government's pay system.

Guided by the recommendations of the Auditor General, the government will continue to work hard to instill a culture of openness and agility, which emphasizes innovation and experimentation in delivering our programs and improving services to Canadians.
