FUNimation Entertainment and Independent Film Channel Bring More Anime to TV

DALLAS, Dec. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- FUNimation Entertainment, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Navarre Corporation and the market share leader for home video sales of Japanese animation in the United States, announces the addition of two of its properties to the Independent Film Channel's growing slate of anime programming.

In January, IFC premieres a full season of Basilisk and Gunslinger Girl. The two properties will create a one-hour anime programming block, leading into the new Friday night line-up dubbed 'Grindhouse.' IFC has experienced recent success with another acquired anime series from FUNimation, Samurai 7, which debuted on the network in April.

"Anime continues to be an ever-growing form of entertainment in the United States as is being demonstrated by the overwhelmingly positive fan feedback of anime programming on IFC. We look forward to our continued work with IFC as they build on the success of Samurai 7 by offering their viewers two additional high-quality anime properties," stated Gen Fukunaga, president and CEO of FUNimation Entertainment.

"IFC values the opinions of our viewers, and proven by our popular film strands 'Samurai Saturdays' and 'Indie Screams,' anime and horror are two genres that our viewers continue to enjoy and request," said Evan Shapiro, Executive Vice President and General Manager, IFC. "With the addition of these programs to our expanding slate of original series and docs, IFC is delivering on its commitment to increasing the original and serial programming on the network."

Gunslinger Girl and Basilisk are scheduled to premiere on IFC January 5, 2007 at 11:00pm EST, leading into IFC's new film strand.
