France To Investigate Manslaughter Charges In Germanwings Crash

(RTTNews) - France has started criminal inquiry into Germanwings flight crash to determine manslaughter charges. A panel of three judges will lead the investigation.

The plane crash on March 26 had killed 150 people on board, as the Germanwings A320 flight hit the French Alps. Primary investigations have shown that the Co-Pilot Andras Lubitiz has deliberately lowered the flight to danger, after locking the Captain out of the cockpit. When the captain recognized it, the flight was in autopilot set to 100 feet, descending from a height of 38000 feet.

There were reports that the Co-pilot had rehearsed a controlled decent on another flight on March 24, while he was flying from Dusseldorf to Barcelona.

Investigators have found that Lubitz has been under treatment, probably for psychic issues. Recently, reports said he had met seven doctors, including three psychiatrists in March. In the last five years, he had consulted 41 doctors. A French prosecutor has said that Lubitz had feared losing his sight and consulted several eye specialists.

Till date the remains of only 44 people killed in the crash have been handed over for burial. There have been delay in matching the remains through DNA test. Relatives have complained about the spelling mistakes in death certificates and there has been an administrative time lag to correct the certificates.
