Ford Ranger: Mid-Size Truck Returning In 2019
(RTTNews) - Ford Motor Co. (F) is having second thoughts about the Ford Ranger and now plans to bring back the mid-size truck to the U.S. sometime in 2019.
The automaker plans to re-introduce the Ranger in the U.S amid strong sales of mid-size trucks, particularly in response to the strong sales of the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon.
The new Ranger will use the same platform currently being used for the global Ford Ranger that is being sold globally, except in the U.S. It will also result in a new Ford Bronco SUV.
Ford had stopped sales of the Ranger in the U.S. in 2011, in favor of the F-150 lineup.
The U.S. market will most likely get the 3.2-liter five-cylinder diesel that is currently being offered in the full-size Transit van.
An EcoBoost four-cylinder and a naturally aspirated gas V6 are also likely in the U.S. lineup. The new 2019 model year Ranger's base price is estimated to start below $25,000.
