Ford Issues Three Safety Recalls For 221,100 Vehicles In North America

(RTTNews) - Automaker Ford Motor Co. (F) on Wednesday issued three safety recalls in North America that covers a total of about 221,100 vehicles. However, no accidents or injuries are attributed to these recall related conditions.

The company issued a safety recall for 212,911 2011-2013 Ford Explorer and Ford Police Interceptor Utility vehicles in North America for an issue with the spring that controls the interior door handles.

The door may become unlatched in a side-impact crash, increasing the risk of injury, if the spring is unseated.

The company said 194,484 of these vehicles are in the U.S. and federalized territories, 12,392 in Canada and 6,035 in Mexico. These vehicles were built at the Chicago Assembly Plant between February 1, 2011 and November 30, 2012.

Ford said dealers will inspect all four interior door handle assemblies and repair or replace the handles as necessary at no cost to the customer.

Safety recall was also issued for 1,725 2013-2015 Lincoln MKT limo and hearse vehicles in North America for an issue with the vacuum pump relay that could result in an underhood fire. Ford is aware of two underhood fires.

These vehicles were built at Oakville Assembly between March 6, 2012 and to March 4, 2015. The company said 1,586 of these vehicles are in the U.S. and 139 in Canada. Ford said dealers will replace the vacuum pump relay and associated wiring at no cost to the customer.

Additionally, Ford issued a safety recall for 6,472 2011-2013 Ford F-Series Super Duty ambulance vehicles and 2014-2015 Ford F-Series Super Duty ambulance and emergency vehicles equipped with 6.7-liter diesel engines in North America.

In these vehicles the exhaust gas temperature sensors may not function properly, causing the vehicle to incorrectly identify a high temperature condition. Ford said dealers will update the software on affected vehicles at no cost to the customer.

These vehicles were built at Kentucky Truck Plant between February 22, 2010 and February 1, 2015. The company said 6,322 of these vehicles are in the U.S., 96 in Canada and 54 in Mexico.

In Wednesday's regular trading session, F is currently trading at $16.42, down $0.14 or 0.88% on a volume of 4.82 million shares.
