Ford Focused On Futuristic Interiors

(RTTNews) - Ford is looking at innovative ways to improve the interior of its vehicles as it tries to deliver a visual delight to customers and make its cars and trucks desirable.

The automaker said it is working with new research and measurement methods, including eye tracking, to collect customer insights and understand how people visually discover new vehicles.

Ford is working with new interiors for its vehicles including the Focus to the GT models. The car maker said tools like measuring where eyesight lingers most and biometrics help it gain new perspectives on what visual features would attract a customer to its vehicles.

According to Ford, research shows that a great-looking interior design can attract new buyers, but if that design is not thought through to accommodate various customer needs, the result can be a less satisfying experience.

"Vehicle interiors have witnessed one of the biggest evolutions across the history of cars in recent years," says Raj Nair, group Vice President, Global Product Development, Ford.

"Not only have we introduced a great deal of useful new technology into our cars and trucks, we consistently are adding better materials, improved design and increased features...," Nair said.

Research apart, customer responses to color and materials would continue to be assessed at a later stage of the process, Ford said.

The Ford GT interior, for example, has design solutions that visually communicate. Focus has been on its instrument panel, where there is a blend of technology and ergonomics as well as the importance of soft materials.

Compactness and convenience are other aspects when planning for interiors.

"Over the past few years, we have gained some incredible momentum with our designs," said Moray Callum, Ford vice president, Design. "As we move forward, we need to build on and evolve what we have achieved so far to continue to deliver exciting and fresh solutions..."
