ALISO VIEJO, Calif., Feb. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Fluor Corporation announced today that it has begun construction on the second phase of Corning Incorporated's newest liquid crystal display (LCD) glass substrate manufacturing facility in Taichung, Taiwan. Fluor is providing construction management, as well as engineering and procurement services, for both announced phases of the new facility, under contracts awarded by Corning Incorporated .

Corning had previously announced these expansions following approval by its board of directors in July 2004 and October 2004, respectively. The completed facility will be located in the Central Taiwan Science Park in Taichung and will manufacture glass substrates for active matrix LCDs used in flat panel monitors, notebook computers and LCD televisions. Fluor's work on the facility construction is scheduled to be complete in spring 2006.

"We are pleased to assist Corning in meeting its project goals," said Steve Dobbs, group president of Fluor's Industrial & Infrastructure business. "Additionally, this project also will allow Fluor to expand its business presence in Taiwan."

Work is being executed by employees in Fluor's Taichung, Taiwan; Greenville, S.C.; and Shanghai offices, in conjunction with the efforts of local Taiwanese project partners.

Fluor's contract value for both phases of the project was booked in 2004.
