Florida Homeowners Insurance Company Takes a Stand Against Cancer
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., July 28, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Cancer is one of the primary causes of death from disease amongst kids and adolescents in the USA. Florida homeowners insurance carrier, Universal Property and Casualty Insurance Company (UPCIC) - along with team Universal Direct (https://www.universaldirect.com) were recently heroes for kids with cancer! At the St. Baldrick's event on July 14, 2017, UPCIC had over 80 employees "brave the shave", 16 volunteers, 125 personal donations, and raised over $70,000 for childhood cancer.
As a result of the tremendous generosity of donors, the company issued a matching contribution. This brought the total amount raised for this year's event to $140,000. You can watch the event here: https://youtu.be/hOYySHfTfDk.
Kids with cancer are the reason for it all. There is currently a broad range of research being conducted to better understand the causes, biology, and patterns of childhood cancers and to identify the best ways to successfully treat children with cancer, but there is still a long way to go.
Even when long-term survival is achieved, many survivors of childhood cancer may experience long-term adverse effects from the disease or its treatment. Clearly, more research is needed to develop new, more-effective, and safer treatments for childhood cancer.
The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a volunteer-powered charity that funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government. You can help to change lives through the St. Baldrick's Foundation by donating to childhood cancer clinical research.
