NEWTOWN, Conn., Oct. 16, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- How can contractors collectively raise the standards by which we build homes? In other words, what can contractors do to communicate the new standards of craftsmanship and quality to customers and fellow contractors to help move the construction industry forward?
As part of the company's extensive educational outreach, Fine Homebuilding, the most trusted and authoritative resource for the residential construction and remodeling community, announced that it is hosting its second annual #KeepCraftAlive Panel Discussion and Networking event at Tradecraft Industries in Denver, CO to discuss what it means to build a quality home in the age of climate change, severe weather patterns, advanced learnings in building science, endless design inspiration and endless product and material options – not to mention a critical labor shortage.

What started as a social media hashtag to showcase pride in construction craft, Keep Craft Alive has quickly become the rallying cry for the industry to take action and find ways to solve the skills gap and other construction issues together. We are grateful to Tradecraft Industries for partnering with us for the second time to host this event, and to our other supporting partners in this mission to support this localized event within a hot builders market – Pella Windows and Doors, CertainTeed Corporation, and Tradecraft Industries."

Keep Craft Alive: Powered by Fine Homebuilding
The disparity between the employment demands of a growing housing construction industry and the shortage of trained, qualified labor, more commonly referred to the skills gap, continues to be a serious concern for the vitality of the industry and of the economy overall. The recession displaced many workers, and now Baby Boomers are exiting the workforce at a rapid rate – there are not enough people entering the trades to meet the demands. From the pace of building, to the cost of construction, the prices of homes, the quality of our housing infrastructure—the skills gap is having a deep and far-reaching impact on our society. That's why Fine Homebuilding launched the Keep Craft Alive campaign – to leverage all our media resources and platforms to bring awareness to the problem and to help build towards a solution. What started as a campaign is now a movement. Fine Homebuilding has partnered with industry organizations and influencers to surface skills training and educational opportunities and to fund student scholarships to support those who want to pursue a path in the trades. Most importantly, we have tapped our core content development capabilities and media platform reach to celebrate the value of true craftsmanship in all trades in order to influence the cultural narrative about what it means to be a respected, successful professional.
