Fiat Chrysler Sued In Death Of Star Trek Star

(RTTNews) - Parents of Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin are suing Fiat Chrysler, after their son was killed in an accident caused by a defect in his Jeep, which caused it to roll down the driveway and crush him to death.

Irina Yelchin and Victor Yelchin have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Fiat Chrysler.

"In spite of our unbelievable grief, we decided to come here to prevent other families from the same tragedy," the actor's father Victor Yelchin said. "It is wrong, it's against nature, when the parents bury its own child," he added. "That's why we hope that this lawsuit will make [another] family never go through the same hell we're going through right now."

The 27-year old Yelchin died on June 19 when his 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee rolled backwards down a steep driveway and crushed him against a brick mailbox pillar and security fence.

The Jeep that killed Yelchin was part of a safety recall the government issued two months ago. However, Yelchin's attorney says that a recall notice was mailed to actor Anton Yelchin seven days after he was killed.

Fiat Chrysler recalled more than 800,000 vehicles in April, after receiving hundreds of roll-away complaints.

"The safety recall was way too little and way too late," attorney Gary Dordick said at a press conference. "They should have never used this device."
